Winter in South Florida

Winter in South Florida

The influx of folks coming from North, West and East down south is not abating any time soon.  Its no wonder either.  South Florida has always been a destination for snowbirds.  Why would anyone not want to come down to where the nights are still balmy, and the skies are blue with the backdrop of palm trees swaying in the wind?  South Florida is a definite must do this winter season.  The beaches are ready for sun worshipers.  Many of our local beaches were just given a once over with more parking, concessions, chair and umbrella rentals and more security.  Most of our beaches are near fabulous shopping and dining too.  Spend the day on the sun, rent a bike and cruise the boardwalk to watch the most breathtaking sunsets.

There are beautiful boutique hotels lining our coast if you prefer somewhere on the low-key side.  Some of these venues are owned by celebrities and it should not come as a surprise if you spot someone famous lounging pool side.  Air BB is another option, which are filling up quickly, so don’t delay if that’s your preference.  Car rental has been tough, so secure your transportation ahead of time as well.  Walking is an option, but if you want to explore more of the city, wheels is a definite must.

One thing important to take into consideration is dining reservations.  Due to labor shortages plaguing the hospitality industry, scoring reservations at the 4 star and up eateries is a challenge.  Most require a credit card just to hold a table and any no shows are charged a no-show fee.  You will want to book your dinging way in advance of your travels to make sure you secure your spot.

Many of us are concerned about safety as we travel and especially lately with so much bad news making headlines.  City officials have beefed up security in some of the more popular areas to ensure tourists and locals are safe.  Best practice is to have a buddy, a map, a guide (if possible) and not venture into areas that seem questionable or unsafe.

Don’t forget your beach essentials.  Wide brimmed hats, sunglasses, bathing suits, shorts, tank tops and most of all, don’t forget to order your personalized beach towel from www.southbeachtowel.com
